Public Notes:

"Monoocular telescope with a Porro prism (Longue-Vue-Cornet). Brass barrel covered with black leather. The handle at the side was used for focusing. Length 13 cm, Ø casing 7.5 cm. Unsigned, but made in France, probably by J.G. Hofmann. With its original leather casing. Inside the cover is a so called ‘telemeter’-scale, which was used for the estimation of distances. Ca. 1862-1865" (Louwman and Zuidervaart, 2013).

Telescope with two prisms that create an upright image. Binoculars soon manufactured using this method-- monoculars are very rare.
