Public Notes:

Cardboard, parchment, leather, wood construction. Tubes covered in what resembles marbled paper but is actually painted parchment. This decoration and gold embossing characteristic of London telescope-makers circa 1700. Hand-grip and lens covers covered with Bordeaux-red leather with gold embossing.

Handle and end caps covered with red-brown leather, with gold tooling, among which Turner no. 20c. Four drawtubes, covered with white parchment stamped with red, green and ochre coloured patterns with gold tooling, resembling Turner (1966), nos. 29R, 36 (variant), ‘Roll 1’ and not described. Ocular- and objective fitting made of lignum vitae (pockwood). Unsigned. Probably first quarter of the 18th century.
