From an engraving by Joseph Calendi. This image appears to be the engraving, not the original painting. The painting is said to be the oldest portrait of Galileo, and since it was painted circa 1601 (the painter died in 1603), the telescope Galileo holds in his right hand in this image must be a later addition.
